Starting life as a base model 6 speed manual transmission Crosstrek I've slowly but surely added modifications to get the vehicle more off-roading capability. The front limited slip differential, dual range 5 speed manual transmission swap (imported from All Drive Subaroo in Australia and distributed by ZF Design in Colorado), and additions like larger wheels, custom home made bumpers and 2" lift have all added to the rigs capabilities. I am a recent transplant from Arizona and I am excited to see what off-roading is like out here on the East coast!
The transmission swap took about a month (due to a mistake on my part causing a cracked clutch). I fabricated a custom shift lever and used a Polaris Razor shift cable to allow for actuating low range from within the cab. The low range gearing helps with technical and steep climbs and the Torsen LSD helps with low traction situations. Bigger tires, a 2 inch lift, and a custom home made front bumper helps with clearance and approach to obstacles. Finally, the spare tire carrier gives me peace of mind, with a full size spare ready in case of pinch flats/punctures.
